Los Osos High School Library and Media Center

HOURS: The library is open 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. except on Friday; when the library is open 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students may use the library before school, at lunch, or after school. During class time, students must have a pass from a teacher to use the library, unless the teacher has scheduled the entire class into the library for instruction or research, or if the student does not have a class during that period.

RESOURCES: Students have free access to many resources including books, magazines, newspapers, online databases, and the Internet. There is a coin-operated photocopier available. Two computers have scanners, and all have an available printer.

TUTORING: Free tutoring is provided by the National Honor Society in the library before school, at lunch, and after school, Monday through Thursday.

ID: Students must carry their current school IDs with them at all times. Students must present their ID card in order to check out any library resources including the computers. Replacement IDs are available at the ID desk in the library. Replacement cost is $7.

FINES: A small daily fine is charged for overdue library books and materials. There is a $5 fine for missing barcodes from books and materials.

BOOK POLICIES: All textbooks and library books are checked out and returned in the library. Students must present their current ID card when checking out any book. Books are the responsibility of the student until the books are returned. If students turn in a book that is not theirs, they are still responsible for the one originally checked out to them.

Lost, stolen, or damaged books are the responsibility of the student, and replacement textbooks or other books will not be issued until the original book is paid for. The library is not responsible for stolen books. Teachers are not responsible for books left in their classrooms. Students will be charged for lost books at the current replacements cost, and students will be liable for fines if books are returned in a damaged condition (water damage, torn pages/cover, graffiti, etc.) Students are advised to write their names inside their textbooks to prevent mix-ups with other students. Students are advised to cover all textbooks to prevent damage. Free book covers and instructions on how to use them are provided in the library. The use of adhesive book covers is FORBIDDEN due to cover damage when they are removed.
