Message to Parents - April 1, 2020

CJUHSD Parents and Students,

Today Governor Newsom supported the recommendation made last night by State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, to keep all schools closed for the remainder of the school year. Our county superintendent, Ted Alejandre, is aligned with this decision and recommends all schools in San Bernardino County follow this directive due to current safety concerns and the need for ongoing social distancing. As a result of these recommendations, the Chaffey District will extend school closures through the end of the school year and continue our efforts to provide distance learning for students.

I acknowledge that these are some of the most challenging times we have gone through as a school community, but I am confident that together we can overcome any obstacles we may face. Our continued patience, compassion, and empathy for each other will be needed now more than ever, as we face the reality that students will not be able to finish the school year in a traditional setting with their classmates by their side. Students must be assured that even though they are learning remotely, they will still earn final grades and finish the school year. Transcripts will be prepared reflecting the completion of classes for the 2019-2020 school year and diplomas will be earned.

I am especially concerned about the Class of 2020 and please know we will make every effort to listen and work with our seniors to help them through this unprecedented time. They WILL have a graduation ceremony, once it is safe to do so, and we will work with principals and students to explore other senior activities as well.

Most importantly, please continue to take care of yourself and your family by practicing social distancing, avoiding public places, and limiting contact with others so that together we can prevent the spread of this virus.

Mathew Holton, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Chaffey Joint Union High School District
