Grizzly Nation,

Good Evening. Let me begin by sharing a heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2019!

Our graduation will take place – rain or shine – tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m. in our stadium. At this time, local forecasts indicate there is a possibility for rain so we ask families and friends to please plan accordingly (small umbrellas and rain gear are encouraged for guests only).

Graduates will be provided a complimentary rain poncho to wear over their gowns if needed and we are asking that graduates do not bring umbrellas which would block the ability for those in the stands to see the graduates on the field.

In the event of extreme or dangerous weather, please know that the event could be delayed or terminated and the stadium could be evacuated as the safety of our graduates and guests will be our highest priority.

If necessary, updated information regarding the event may be sent via our Superintendent’s Twitter @CJUHSD, my Twitter @CaptGrizzly, on the District website, or through an automated voice call.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.

Grizzly Parents,

This is Principal Kirk informing all parents that our client server information system, Aeries, was down all day today prohibiting teachers from being able to take attendance.  Due to this you may receive a call from our district automated system informing you that your son and or daughter were absent from classes.  If you receive this message, please disregard.  Our district is fixing the issue and we expect to be back to normal on tomorrow.  Thank you for your patience and your understanding.

Grizzly Nation,

This is Mr. Kirk, principal of Los Osos High School.  I hope you all had a wonderful, restful four day weekend.  I have some important information to talk about and I thank you in advance for listening to this message in its entirety.

I have been made aware of rumors of a senior ditch day this week.   Please know that this is not a school sponsored event nor is it supported by the school and our teachers have valuable instruction planned for each instructional day.  Attendance is important for student success as well as teaching the value of how attendance impacts current and future success in college and careers. Please be aware that teachers are not required to provide opportunities for make up work for students who miss school with an unexcused absence.

An exciting opportunity for students will be this Friday, February 22, as we will be hosting our second annual LOHS Career Day.   We have approximately 115 professionals from all walks of life coming onto our campus to share their experiences with all of our students and shed light on the recommended paths to success in their career fields.   We ask that students dress in professional attire on this day in order to make a great first impression. Last years career day resulted in several of these professionals offering internships, scholarships, and paid positions to students who made that positive right impression.  This is a sensational event and we are grateful to the professionals who have donated their time to help our students understand the various paths to success.

Lastly, I would ask for all of our Grizzly parents to take a moment and fill out the LCAP stakeholders survey.  This survey allows our district to gather input from our communities on the job we are doing serving and meeting the needs of our students and school communities as well as assisting in identifying areas we can grow.  Your information is key to the development of our districts LCAP plan which explains how we are appropriately utilizing our funds and resources to meet the educational goals for the school communities we serve.  Please go to our home webpage and click on the LCAP Stakeholders Survey link under the quick links title on the left side of our homepage and complete this brief survey.

Thank you for your continued support, and have a great evening.

Good evening Grizzly Parents,

This Thursday, January 31, in the theater from 6-7:30 pm, we will have an important presentation.   This presentation is for students who took their PSAT test in October.  These students and their parents will receive the scores from this exam as well as learn how to interpret the exam results to help become more successful on the actual SATs to improve chances for college admission.

We hope to see you there on Thursday at 6 pm.

Good evening,

This is Mr. Kirk, principal at Los Osos High School.  I am calling you this evening to invite you to participate in a brief survey about our school district.

Each year, our district surveys thousands of stakeholders to gather input about the services we are providing families and students.  This information contributes to the development of our annual Local Control and Accountability Plan, a plan that outlines the services, supports, interventions, investments, and more that we make to provide the best possible education for all of our students.

Your voice matters and we value your feedback and input.

I ask that you take a few moments this evening to take this important survey.  You can find it by going to our website at or our school’s homepage.  Please click the link to the LCAP Survey located on the left of our homepage under Quick Links.

The survey only takes a few minutes.  It is available in English and Spanish for parents.

We will also be gathering survey results from a separate survey for students that will be administered at school.

Again, we appreciate your participation in this important survey.  If you have any questions, please contact us at (909) 477-6900.

January 9, 2019

This Friday, come enjoy a warm cup of coffee in the morning at our Coffee with the Principal. These gatherings are designed specifically for parents to hear directly from the Principal, Mr. Kirk, about what’s happening at our school.  Traditionally, this event is offered in the morning and evening, however due to evening school activities and commitments, there will only be the morning session this Friday.  We do plan on offering both a morning and evening session at the next event in May.  This event is this Friday from 8am – 9am in the Lecture Hall.  Please be sure to check in at the front office when you arrive.  I look forward to seeing you there!

October 17, 2018

Good evening, this is Principal Joshua Kirk.  I am calling to inform you that your child may have been exposed to pertussis (whooping cough) at Los Osos High School.  Pertussis often starts like a common cold, which gets worse over a 1-2 week period and eventually lead to coughing spells.  County health officials are aware of this situation and are monitoring it, but please do not consider this to be an outbreak as there have only been two confirmed cases for our school.

As such, I am making you aware of the situation so that you can monitor the health of your student.  We will continue to monitor any concerns we have at school as students report to the office with general signs of a cough or cold.

In addition to this call, I am sending a School Loop notification with more specific information about whooping cough.  Please read it tonight.

If you have any questions, please call us tomorrow and we will refer you to our school nurse or our Assistant Principal of Educational Services.

Thank you for your continued support and assistance in keep our students and school safe and healthy.

Good evening, Grizzly Parents.   This is Mr. Kirk, principal of Los Osos High School with some important information.

First, I am asking all of our parents to take the Los Osos High School’s School Climate Survey.  This survey provides us with valuable feedback about our school’s learning conditions, climate, culture, safety, and more.  We value the feedback of our families, and we carefully evaluate the results of this survey to make decisions that will improve the experiences of all of our stakeholders.  Throughout the month of October, all tenth grade students and our staff will take a School Climate Survey as well.

Please go to our schools’ homepage.  The link to the survey is located at the top of the page under Headlines.  The survey will only take a few minutes.  Your feedback is so important to us, and we appreciate the time you will take to provide us with your thoughts about Los Osos High School.

Findings from the School Climate Survey are published on our District’s California School Dashboard, which will be updated in December.

In January, we will reach out to you again to take the District’s Local Control and Accountability Plan survey that provides us with feedback about all of our programs that we provide for students and families.

Until then, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let us know and thanks again for taking our School Climate Survey.

Also, as a reminder we are still in competition vs ALTA LOMA HS to see who can have the most PTSA members! The cost to join is only $8.75 and funds go to support our students and many campus needs. The deadline for the contest is October 31st and the Winning school will get to slime the losing school’s principal and PTSA president on the campus of the winning team.  You can register online for PTSA with a very easy process.  Please see your school loop message or our website for instructions.

Lastly, this Friday come enjoy a warm cup of coffee in the morning or some tasty popcorn in the evening during our Coffee and Popcorn with a Principal. These morning and evening gatherings are designed specifically for parents to hear directly from the Principal, Mr. Kirk, about what’s happening here at our school.  Again, that is this Friday from 8am – 9am and from 5pm – 6pm in the lecture hall.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you very much Grizzly Nation!

Good evening Grizzly parents,

Progress grades were released last week and at that time your child was earning a D or F grade in at least one course.   Although those grades may have improved, your child has received an invitation to attend 4G Saturday School this Saturday, September 22, from 8 am – noon.   At Saturday school, your child will be given help in improving his/her grades.   It is important that your child speaks to the teacher(s) where they are struggling, to determine what work should be completed in order to improve their grades tomorrow.  Your child would then bring that work with them to school on Saturday, and we will direct them to a person to help them complete it.   The earlier we work to improve these grades during the semester, the more likely the students are to achieve an acceptable grade in these courses.   If it is not possible for your student to attend Saturday School this Saturday, please look on the back of their invitation for the tutoring schedule.   It is not mandatory for your student to attend either of these events, but it is highly encouraged.   We hope to see your student on Saturday!

Grizzly Nation,

Good evening, this is Mr. Kirk Principal of Los Osos HS.  Here at Los Osos HS we are committed to keeping our Grizzlies safe while creating and maintaining a harassment-free campus.  Doing so allows for increased opportunities for students to build positive relationships, get connected to our school and experience success.  In support of this focus, I would like to inform you that representatives from the Office of Civil Rights will be on campus Sept. 11 -13 to provide training for our students.  This training will help Los Osos High School in our efforts to promote and maintain a learning environment free from harassment and discrimination.  Students will participate in only one of the three days mentioned above in their English class.  A school loop message has gone out with a flyer attached from the Office of Civil Rights that provides additional information. If you would prefer your child not attend the training, it is important that you print out and complete the form and have your child return it to his/her English teacher no later than Monday, September 10.  We will also have copies of the flyer in the guidance office if needed.  It takes all of us working together and learning together in order to have a safe and successful school for the families in our community.  Thank you for your continued support and have a great evening.

August 20, 2018

Good evening Grizzly families - - this is Joshua Kirk, your principal. Today has been a difficult day for our staff and students as we learned this morning that one of our former students, who attended Los Osos last year, passed away at her home last evening. Today, I was able to reach out to her Alta Loma High School principal whom we are working with to offer our support on behalf of the entire Grizzly community. This evening, I would ask for your thoughts and prayers to be with her family -- as well as with her friends and staff she was close to.

Following this difficult announcement today, some students who knew her needed to spend time grieving with others -- including their friends – and with Los Osos staff, counselors, and District psychologists. It is so important for our students to have access to trained adults who care about them and who can help them through the grieving process -- and we will continue to provide counselors and psychologists throughout the week if needed. We know when adolescents are hurting or when they lose a peer it’s difficult to express their feelings. Please call me directly anytime if you need me to speak with your student personally, or would like me to refer them to a staff member who can help. I’m so sorry to share this sad news with you this evening. Thank you.
